Data interpretation

Banking, management-entrance and teaching-aptitude exams all test it: prepare it once. The overlap map has the full list.

What it covers

  • Tables and bar, line and pie charts; caselets (short passages with data)
  • Percentages, ratios and averages applied to data sets
  • Data sufficiency (deciding whether the given data answers the question)
  • Set-based and missing-data puzzles (banking mains, CAT DILR)

Depth by exam family

Family What the exam rewards
Banking (IBPS PO, SBI PO mains) Fast, accurate computation on tables, charts and caselets; mains gives DI its own section
CAT, XAT, SNAP, MAT Multi-step reasoning on tricky sets; XAT pairs DI with quant, SNAP with data sufficiency
UGC NET Paper 1, CSIR NET Part A School-level interpretation; a small, scoring unit, not deep puzzles

How to practise

Learn each chart type from NCERT statistics, then do one full DI set daily under a timer; convert fractions and percentages mentally. Finish with official previous papers and mocks of your target exam, tracking accuracy and seconds per set.
