Exam pattern¶
For DTE the selection process is the Written Test / Computer Based Test (CBT) alone, carrying 100% weightage (there is no interview and no skill or trade test for this post). A Pre-Employment Medical Examination follows.
CBT: 2 hours, objective with four options per question, 170 questions in all, 1 mark each, and a penalty of −¼ for every wrong or multiple answer. The test is held on a single day. PwBD candidates are allowed compensatory time as per Government of India directives.
| Part | Questions | Content |
|---|---|---|
| Part-I — Technical Knowledge Test (TKT) | 120 | Discipline-specific questions (Electrical for DTE) |
| Part-II — Aptitude Test (AT) | 50 | English vocabulary, verbal comprehension, quantitative aptitude, reasoning ability, data sufficiency and interpretation, numerical ability, general awareness |
| Total | 170 |
Qualifying criteria (applied category-wise): Unreserved/EWS — minimum 30% in each part separately and 40% in aggregate; reserved vacancies — minimum 25% in each part separately and 30% in aggregate.
Syllabus¶
The advertisement does not print a topic list for Part-I; it states that the 120 questions are "specific questions from the respective discipline" — for DTE, diploma-level Electrical engineering. Prepare it from the shared electrical engineering core and engineering mathematics.
Part-II topics listed above map to the shared quantitative aptitude, reasoning, English language and general awareness modules.
How to prepare (free, in order)¶
- Cover the diploma-level Electrical core — circuits, electrical machines, power systems, measurements, power electronics and basic electronics — from the EE core module. It is the whole of Part-I.
- Add engineering mathematics at diploma depth.
- Practise Part-II daily in small slots: quantitative aptitude and reasoning carry the bulk; keep a short general-awareness and English-vocabulary habit.
- Take full 170-question, 2-hour timed mocks and respect the −¼ penalty. The qualifying cut-offs are low, so accuracy across both parts matters more than the number of attempts.
