Exam pattern

Phase I: online objective screening, 200 marks (General Awareness 80, English 30, Quantitative Aptitude 30, Reasoning 60). Test-wise cut-offs apply per category (for example GEN/UR: 39.00 GA, 14.50 English, 14.50 Quant, 29.25 Reasoning, 108.75 aggregate in PY2026). PY2026 was held June 13, 2026.

Phase II: Papers I, II and III, all taken online (PY2026: July 25, 2026; every candidate appears in all papers and shifts). Paper-I is Economic and Social Issues and Paper-III is General Finance and Management. Paper-wise marks, timing and negative marking are in Appendix-II (scheme of selection and syllabus) of the notice — read the current notice rather than older summaries.

Interview: candidates shortlisted from Phase II face an interview with document verification (bio-data, certificates and NOC where applicable). Phase-II and interview weightage is in the notice.

Syllabus

Phase I follows the four tested sections above (see the shared modules). Phase II is built around its papers: Economic and Social Issues (Paper-I) and General Finance and Management (Paper-III), plus Paper-II — the full topic-wise syllabus is Appendix-II of the notice, which also carries the scheme of selection.

How to prepare (free, in order)

  1. Phase II wins the selection. Start ESI and FM early from RBI's own reports and the Economic Survey.
  2. Practise descriptive answers and essays weekly.
  3. Track Opportunities@RBI for the next notice: PY2026 applied April 29 – May 20, 2026, so dates shift every cycle.
