1. NMDC commissions ₹5,427-crore integrated iron-ore project in Bastar (Steel)¶
- NMDC Ltd commissioned a 2 MTPA (million tonnes per annum) pellet plant at Nagarnar, Chhattisgarh — part of a ₹5,427-crore integrated project that links its Bailadila iron-ore operations with its Nagarnar steel plant.
- The project has three parts: a new iron-ore processing plant at Bacheli, a 15 MTPA slurry pipeline, and the 2 MTPA pellet plant at Nagarnar. A 135-km slurry pipeline carries processed concentrate from Bacheli to Nagarnar, replacing road transport.
- The pellet plant uses straight-grate induration technology and lets NMDC convert fines and slimes from its Bailadila mines into concentrate and then pellets — a new value-added product in its portfolio.
- CMD Amitabh Mukherjee monitored the first production from NMDC headquarters (bad weather blocked the site visit). The project fits NMDC's long-term plan to raise iron-ore output capacity to 100 million tonnes; the pipeline passes through 61 villages of Bastar and Dantewada districts.
- Why it matters: minerals, PSUs and infrastructure are recurring UPSC Prelims / SSC GK / banking-awareness topics (iron ore, Bailadila, slurry pipelines, value addition).

2. Finance Minister in Qatar for 11th AIIB Annual Meeting (Finance)¶
- Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is on an official visit to Qatar from 27 to 29 September 2026, leading a Finance Ministry delegation.
- On 28 September in Doha she attends the 11th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), participating as India's Governor to the Bank. India is the second-largest shareholder of AIIB.
- Bilateral meetings are scheduled with the AIIB President and counterparts from Jordan, Switzerland, Algeria, Saudi Arabia and Nepal, plus meetings with Qatar's leadership, business leaders and investors.
- Why it matters: multilateral banks (AIIB vs NDB vs ADB), India's shareholding, and high-level visits are standard UPSC / RBI / banking-exam fodder.

3. Exercise Tarang Shakti-2026 begins at Jodhpur (Defence)¶
- The Indian Air Force began the operational phase of Exercise Tarang Shakti-2026 at Air Force Station Jodhpur, after the inaugural ceremony on 26 September. The multilateral air exercise runs from 26 September to 12 October 2026 on the theme "Strength in Partnership" (collective strength through interoperability).
- Seven friendly countries take part: Australia, USA, UAE, France, Germany, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh; more countries join as observers. Foreign aircraft include the F-35 Lightning-2, Rafale, F-16, A400M, MRTT, C-130, C-130J and KC-30A.
- This is the second edition (the first was held in 2024). Side events include seminars, industry visits, a marathon, heritage tours and yoga sessions.
- Why it matters: military exercises (name, participants, venue, edition) are asked in every UPSC, SSC, CDS, AFCAT and banking-awareness paper.

4. INS Sahyadri and INS Kulish complete ADMM-Plus maritime activity at Subic Bay (Defence)¶
- Frontline stealth frigate INS Sahyadri and missile corvette INS Kulish completed the Experts' Working Group on Maritime Security Joint Cooperation Activity (EWG-MS JCA) at Subic Bay, Philippines, under the ASEAN Defence Ministers' Meeting-Plus (ADMM-Plus) framework.
- The activity began with the opening ceremony at Naval Operating Base Subic on 21 September 2026 (hosted by the Philippine Navy, co-chaired by Japan) and closed on 25 September 2026. The sea phase covered search and rescue, hydrographic survey, casualty/medical evacuation, deck landing and assistance to disabled vessels.
- The release frames the participation as part of the Act East policy and the MAHASAGAR vision (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions).
- Why it matters: ship names and classes, straits/bays, groupings (ADMM-Plus, ASEAN) and doctrines (Act East, MAHASAGAR) are high-yield for defence and IR questions.
