General awareness and current affairs¶
Tested almost everywhere: SSC, railways, banking, defence, state PSCs, CLAT, MBA exams, even ESE Paper I. See the overlap map.
What it covers¶
- Static GK: Indian history, geography, polity, economy, general science, art and culture.
- Current affairs: government schemes, appointments, awards, sports, summits, reports and indices, science and defence news, usually for the 6–12 months before the exam.
- Sectoral awareness for some families: banking and financial awareness (banking), legal current affairs (CLAT), energy and environment (ESE Paper I).
Free, official sources¶
- NCERT Class 6–10 social science and science textbooks for static GK: https://ncert.nic.in/textbook.php
- Press Information Bureau (official releases on schemes and decisions): https://pib.gov.in
- Union Budget and Economic Survey: https://www.indiabudget.gov.in
- Yojana and Kurukshetra magazines: https://www.publicationsdivision.nic.in
How to practise¶
Fix NCERT as the base for static GK. For current affairs, keep one monthly notebook built from PIB and the Budget/Economic Survey, instead of many compilations. Revise it monthly and before every mock test.
