Evidence status: ⚪ unverified (2026-10-01). The Maharashtra Public Service Commission's portal (mpsc.gov.in) operates as a dynamic client-side application; notification PDFs and detailed scheme tables are published dynamically, so numeric paper-wise marks, durations, and cycle-specific dates could not be verified via static fetch. Structural framework, syllabus topics, and preparation guidance have been harvested from earlier research and re-verified against official commission sections. Confirm cycle-specific numbers in the official notification.

MPSC's State Services (Rajyaseva) examination recruits officers for Group A and Group B posts across Maharashtra's civil administration, including the Maharashtra Civil Service (Executive Branch), Maharashtra Police Service, Maharashtra Finance & Accounts Service, Tehsildar, and allied state services. Exam pattern

The Maharashtra Civil Services Gazetted (State Services / Rajyaseva) examination is conducted in three successive stages:

  1. Preliminary Examination (Objective Screening):
  2. Comprises two objective multiple-choice papers: General Studies (Paper 1) and Civil Services Aptitude Test / CSAT (Paper 2).
  3. Designed strictly as a screening test to shortlist candidates for the Main examination; marks obtained in Prelims are not counted in the final merit ranking.
  4. Paper 2 (CSAT) functions as a qualifying paper with a minimum threshold (typically 33%).
  5. Negative marking is applied for incorrect answers in objective papers per commission rules.

  6. Main Examination (Conventional Descriptive):

  7. The commission restructured the Main examination into a descriptive, conventional written pattern aligned with the UPSC Civil Services Examination format.
  8. Includes qualifying language papers (Marathi and English), an Essay paper, and General Studies papers covering Indian and Maharashtra polity, history, geography, economy, environment, science and technology, and ethics.
  9. Candidates write subjective answers evaluated on analytical clarity, contextual precision, and depth of understanding.
  10. Note: The commission periodically issues corrigendums and updates regarding question paper structure and instructions on its official notices board; candidates must consult the specific notification for their examination year.

  11. Interview / Personality Test:

  12. Candidates clearing the Main written cut-off are summoned for a personal interview before the commission board to assess administrative temperament, leadership qualities, awareness of public issues, and problem-solving aptitude.
